Creatively Reconnecting With Your Purpose

theEYEToday I want to share with you a Creating Exercise designed to help you gain confidence in your inner wisdom. This is an especially helpful exercise if you feel like your life is not moving in the direction you would like or had envisioned it would. Perhaps, it feels as if you are experiencing a spell of unfortunate luck. Things you have hoped for are not panning out, or projects you have been spending a lot of time and effort on are not having the effect you were hoping for. When these feelings of uncertainty begin to preoccupy your thoughts, you can begin to feel less grounded in the world. It’s as if you are floating through life, unsure of your place in it. You can feel that your purpose is unclear or slipping away from you, and you begin to question if you are truly on the right path or not.

How have I just perfectly described what you are going through? Well, because, I am going through it as well. I have been posting on my blog for a year now. It has not been generating the results I was hoping for. Even, as I post this, I can hear the faint din of crickets… Thoughts begin to creep in beneath my seemingly impenetrable shield of creative confidence. Thoughts come in the form of questions such as:

Will anyone read this?

Does anyone care about what I have to share?

Is this a valuable way to spend my time?

What is the point of self-published writing anyway?

I would like to share with you where these valid questions have led me today. A time such as this, as uncomfortable as it can feel, can actually provide you with an important opportunity for growth… as long as you take advantage of it and resist shying away from the feelings you are experiencing. This is a perfect time to seek the wisdom that resides inside yourself. It is the worst time to seek the advice of someone else. When you are feeling this vulnerability, it can be easy to think that someone else must have the answers for you. You are eager to find a fix and you feel as if you are willing to try just about anything to make the feelings of disappointment go away. You long for productive action that will yield immediate results. You are on the verge of desperation, of giving up, and your head is constantly spinning as you retrace the events that led you here, searching for that miscalculated step where everything started to go wrong.

If this is how you feel, too, then keep reading!

Here’s your first action item:

Breathe!

It’s okay. You haven’t done anything wrong. Life is full of uncertainty and that is simply the nature of existence. You are human; you are not perfect. You don’t want to be perfect, because that would take all the fun out of life… really, it would! You are a beautiful transformative creator, and your magical creations come into the world through mysterious and circuitous routes that even you, as magical as you are, cannot predict, harness, or control. Nor would you want to! That would take all the mystery out of life.

Second:

Let it go!

Whatever disappointment you are fixated on, it’s time to let it go and move forward. You can’t let it continue to get in your way. You have an important purpose here, and in the grand scheme of things, what you are experiencing is not a roadblock, it is just a speed bump, a burp. So whatever it is, it’s time to get over it. Send those feelings of disappointment, inadequacy, and uncertainty out of your body as energy through your breath. Breath in, possibility, breathe out… whatever the word is that describes best what you are feeling. Try it now. Breath deeply. As you draw your breath in, think “possibility.” As you exhale and release all the air from your lungs, think – I’ll insert my word here as a placeholder – “uncertainty.” Repeat several times.

There are so many stories of people who almost gave up, just before they succeeded. So, what happened? It’s not always that they stayed the course they were on, although sometimes, that’s exactly what it took. They pushed through the uncertainty by diving deeper into their commitment. In most cases, a shift was required, something that seemed subtle or hardly significant at the time, but in retrospect, made all the difference between success and failure. This is what happens when you allow in a little possibility. Suddenly, even if doors are shutting, windows begin to open. The momentum of your true purpose, once you are connected to it strongly, cannot be denied.

Third:

Find your EYE!

Reconnect to your Higher Creative Self, your inner wisdom, to discover the answers you seek. The Third Eye Chakra is an energy point that resides between your eyebrows and inside of your head. To locate the position, place a fingertip above your nose between your eyebrows. Close your eyes and direct your gaze at that spot. You will feel a bit cross-eyed at first, but the more you practice this exercise the more natural it will feel. When you feel you have located the right spot with your eyes, you can remove your finger. Continue breathing deeply now, with your closed eyes focused on your third eye. Again, say the words to yourself, internally or out-loud if you prefer as you breathe. As you relax, you can begin to imagine your third eye. It will appear as a mirror reflection of both of your eyes that overlaps. So the eye will be perfectly symmetrical, unlike your actual eye. It will look something like this:

The Third Eye Chakra relates to your intuition and your inner knowing. It allows for you to see outside of yourself as an observer or witness. It allows for sight beyond any self-limiting beliefs or illusions. It provides you with a perspective that is akin with your deepest nature, the place where your true purpose and gift reside. From this place you can access visions. From this perspective you can reconnect to who you are and see the path you are meant to follow.

Creating Exercise: Your EYE

Try this now. Have your sketchbook or a blank piece of paper beside you to record what you see, to record the vision that comes to you from your third eye. The vision may come to you through any of your senses, so be prepared for this. Just do your best to capture what comes whatever that may be. Prepare by drawing a “blank” eye on your paper. After your meditation, fill it with the “message” you receive. Relax and enjoy the process. You may not be able to interpret the message right away, but the meaning may instead reveal itself over the next few days.

eyeSeriesHere’s an easy way to create a Third Eye template. Trace a circle, locate the center points to the left and right of your circle, and connect the dots. Fill it in with your magical visions!

Here’s the meditation procedure:

Close your eyes and focus on your breath.

Locate your third eye and keep your focus there, gently without strain.

As you breath in receive possibility, and you exhale release uncertainty.

Allow your senses to receive the messages of your higher creative self.

Give thanks.

Record your impressions.

Fourth:

Trust!

Trust that you know what is best for you. When you are connected to your higher self and your internal wisdom, you are your best teacher, your best guide, your best connection to God, and you will know what you need to do. Listen carefully, and trust that the answers will come putting you back on your path with purpose again.

MyEYE
Here’s how mine came out. All I know for sure is that there were a lot of angels on the scene. There was also a beautiful beach with gentle ocean waves. I think it may be time for me to make my way to the ocean, to find out where all this is leading. I feel very connected to my spirit when I am near the ocean. Maybe it is because I was born only a few miles from the Atlantic Ocean. Even though I love the desert I live in, my little mermaid’s soul periodically needs to return to her place of origin, the sea. Reconnecting with my higher creative self and purpose feels that way. It feels like pulling a warm blanket around my shivering body. I feel supported, protected, and cared for by a fleet of angels. All I have to do is stay the course and trust that what comes is in the best interest of that purpose. Nothing will turn out as I have planned it to, because I have always asked for something better than I can even imagine.

Even if I have low readership right now, what I have discovered through writing my blog has immense value to me as a creative coach. I have begun to find my unique voice. It has been over a month now since I posted anything and I have been missing my practice. I have been missing my voice, the voice of my higher self.

Thanks for playing. I hope you start feeling better soon… I know I do.
